Buy wide screen navigation device
If you are a first time user of GPS Navigation devices, then you may consider using The Garmin Nuvi 205W. There are not many options in the 2x5 line. Since you are interested in a simple and yet useful device, this device will fit you well. NUVI 205W is properly loaded with only essential features for the most basic navigations.
However there are really good features that will easily make the navigation very simple and effective. The best feature (at least to me) is, a new "Where am I?" option that can be used to locate the amenities near the current location.

"Where Am I?" is a feature can be found in the Tools menu from this Garmin's Navigation Gadget. Basically this utility is useful to find out your current GPS coordinates/elevation. Apart from this, you can also find the nearest address, and the nearest amenities. I use this feature to save the location in favorites without typing much.
If you save the location into favorites, normally it will default to something similar to favourite1 and favourite2. Use the "Where am I?" and select one from the nearby locations. Now save that chosen location to favorites. Your location will be saved in the name of the amenities. This reduces lots of typing errors while naming the facourite locations.
Is it good enough?
If you consider this as an entry level device, this device is a very good navigation companion for your destinations. I happily chosen this device because of the following features( enough to consider buying this device).
1) The new “Where am I” function to locate yourself, along with additional near by amenities
2) The large wide screen, enough for navigation and finding the distances
3) Speaks street names, so you know the next diversion well before. If there is a need, you may change the lanes.
4) Auto re-route, this is an excellent feature. IF you miss the direction suggested by the Garmin, it will re-route automatically.
5) Lane assist, this will guide you to change the lane whenever necessary.
6) 3-D building view, just a pleasant view.
